How to fix Microsoft.Net Framework Issue in QuickBooks Desktop?

Solution 1: Use QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool

  • Download QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool
  • Once downloaded, close all Open programs and run the tool
  • Depending on your system’s performance and internet’s speed, the tool would automatically update required files
  • Once done, restart the computer to ensure all tools are successfully updated
  • Open QuickBooks

Solution 2: Updating Windows

If you still face the error, it might be because of an outdated Windows version. This results into QuickBooks installation and/or functionality issues. To download the relevant updates, follow these steps:

  • Click on the Start menu and type Windows Update on the search bar, then select the relevant option
  • Follow the prompts on screen and install the necessary updates
  • Restart the system when prompted
  • Open QuickBooks

For Windows 8 and above

  • Open Run dialog by clicking Windows + R
  • Type Control Panel on the search option and click OK
  • Select Uninstall a Program and then click Turn Windows Feature On or Off
  • Now, click OK
  • Verify that .NET Framework 4.5 is enabled if not enabled
  • If it is already enabled, repair the .NET Framework
  • After the reboot, re-enable the .NET Framework 4.5
  • Now, you need to check that .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is enabled on your computer
  • Please enable it, incase it is not already enabled
  • Press OK
  • Reboot the computer one more time
  • Now, you need to re-enable the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and reboot the system one final time
  • Open QuickBooks

For Windows 7 and Vista

  • Open Run dialog by pressing Windows + R
  • Type Control Panel on the search option and click OK
  • Select Uninstall a Program and then click Turn Windows Feature On or Off
  • Now, click OK
  • Check if .NET Framework 3.5 is not selected (enabled), please enable it. Click OK and restart the computer
  • If .NET Framework 3.5 is already enabled, uncheck it and restart the computer. Once it restarts, re-enable the Framework and restart the computer again
  • Now, check for .NET Framework 4.0 or 4.5. If either appears in the list,you will need to repair it. If it doesn’t exist, you will need to install it.

               Repairing .NET Framework 4.0 or 4.5 (if it appears on the list)

  • Open Control Panel > Programs and Features> Select it> Click on Uninstall/Change
  • Select Repair and click Next
  • Follow the prompts on screen and then restart your computer

Installing .NET Framework 4.0 or 4.5

  • Download .NET Framework 4.5 (which is a combination of .NET Framework 4.0 Client and Extended) from Microsoft’s website
  • Save the file and follow the prompts on screen
  • Restart your computer after installation
  • Open QuickBooks to verify if it is working as desired
